Rank change / meta tag change
if I have a page that ranks really highly - but the description is pulled from DMOZ 'coz I 'forgot' to put in meta data on the page, and I change the meta data - will it change my rank?

It shouldn't do if you think about it because a webmaster often can't control his/her DMOZ listing. I have some very slim evidence that it does, but it is slim.
I had a site that improved slightly in rankings soon after using the NODMOZ meta tag. That was four weeks ago. Later the site droppped in rankings and I checked the tag and it was gone - someone put an archive version of the homepage up. I put the tag back on Monday (4th Sept) and I'm waiting to see what happens. The problem is the serps are very noisy at the moment so it's difficult to judge, and as I say it would be illogical and unfair of Google - but that wouldn't be a first.... ;) Cheers, Paz. |
