#30 Penalty at google
 

Has anyone heard of this coz for most of the keywords one of my site is ranking at 31st position in Google. I mean exactly at 31st for most of its keywords.. Does it mean something i mean what can be the possible reason of this.. The site is the one in my sig.

any thoughts

This is the first I have heard of there being a SERP hurdle at #30. It makes no sense and I doubt if it exists. You are likely observing some form of coincidence in SERP results.

statistically you are doing pretty well. there are 21 million pages with website designing services India in them. :rolleyes: but that doesnt pay the bills does it? 8-|

these searchs are blunt tools but can be good indicators as you probably know

being pessimistic i think you should be higher. which means you may have had a visit from a competitor, found something schpammy on your site or links and ratted on you in a spam report and g reduced your score <shrug>

But i have been observing this since 2-3 weeks now. and i also read abt this at webmasterworld which reveals my site is not the only affected there are so many others who are facing the same..

SINS AGAINST THE ALGORITHM
My best guess for the moment is that +30 is not generated by any one specific condition. From a couple different examples I've seen, it looks like this could be a kind of "junk drawer" to collect various and sundry sins against the algorithm. It looks to me like this +30 is added on top of the basic ranking calculations, and I do lean more to believing it's a manually applied condition rather than purely algorithmic.

Also I wonder, is there a "minus 3" or "minus 5" version of this penalty, or some other numbers that are not quite so easy to detect?

We've got to get into Google's point of view and see just what they are aiming to do. It's not some kind of game, with rules to be followed (or evaded) and then proper rewards doled out as our just rewards on the SERPs. It's easy to get into that kind of SEO "head" but it may not survive a reality check.

Google is most basically out to serve relevant results that keep the public coming back, over and over for years and years. That's what makes their business model work. That's why ads get placed and sometimes clicked on -- because Google can deliver the eyeballs. So they're going to take any steps they feel they must to make search results as good as they can. Of course they miss sometimes. And obviously, they also get it right a good bit of the time, too."

I mean there is more discussion going on this n that's why i would like to share if any of u have experience the same thing..

Try all the searches which you would expect seo-guy.com to be top for and
you will probably find that for most phrases it is #31

I tried 10 searches and was #31 10 out of 10 times

very interesting. It does sound like some sort of penalty. Have you tried to build a Google sitemap? If you do, Google does say if your site was banned, maybe Google will also say if their is a penalty? Very interesting, though.

yes i have google sitemap submitted and m frequently updating it too. also for less competitive keywords the site is appearing in first page.. but the most imp keywords that i have targeted i mean atleast 20-25 keywords the rank is #31..
n title and description are unique.
