Does world geographical area of link have any effect on the weight it carries?
Does anybody know if the Geographical area that a website is aimed at or based have any influence over the value that Google gives this link.
For example would a link from a website such as an Indian web portal or a web portal from an area outside the EU or USA have any "less value" than a European link/USA link. |
I don't think location of the link is a factor. But did not do any research on trying to see if it's the case. I don't think a vote from an India site saying this USA site is good would be worth less than an USA site saying this USA site is good.

I completely agree with Jocelyn, a vote coming from India shouldn’t be less of a value than a one coming from USA.

Provided the Indian site is in English.

geographical influence... interesting, I believe there might be slight influence from the DNS location, IP, and domain suffix, cause the spiders are fed by these parameters.
Still, I can't say I've witnessed any ... If so - we'll start marketing quality links from the Holy Land ;) |
I don't think it makes sense at all to base the value of a link on its geographical location. If a very authoritative website on stem cells has links from all the stem cell researchers all over the world,....that's all good.
Location has nothing at all to do with quality, so I doubt it would be used. that's just my pinch of salt anway :D |
It could make sense in some situations, as far as relevancy.
Say you have a real estate site for Los Angeles. Now a link from Tokyo real estate site is somewhat relative (They are both real estate sites) but... Doesn't google put a good amount of weight about true relevancy? Now wouldn't an Orange County Real Estate site be more relevant? First off, they are both in the end Los Angeles based, or the Same State, and the same country. How beneficial would it be for a person visiting a Tokyo Real Estate site to follow a link that leads to a Los Angeles Real Estate site? I dont have any evidence of this... but I know google is pretty smart. Wouldn't it make sense to place a higher influence on the most relevant site? |

Maybe I would like to move from Tokyo to LA and need to find input on what is offered...lol |
true, but if you are looking for LA Real Estate, why would you be on a Tokyo Real Estate site? :)
