High school - with my right arm in a sling from a vicious dog attack. (trained guard dog - great dane) Still made an A in both typing and shorthand. (Not that I could write even one word in shorthand now). It's also how I landed my first job. Had to give a deposition regarding the dog attack - I was young and stupid, so when they asked me if having my arm in a sling had affected my school work, I said, no, and explained that I still made A's in typing and shorthand. (So much for lying and getting lots of money). The court reporter was so impressed, she called me up and asked if I wanted a job translating her shorthand and typing up the court cases. Go figure. Of course, the job was kind of odd. She was an older woman (of course, older to me back then might have meant 40's or so). Her name was something like Mrs. Kacklemyer (not sure how to spell it). And she was always drinking at work, and bringing men into her office supply room for an extended period of time. It was weird. I was a naive, young thing, and wasn't exactly sure how to handle that whole thing. Anyway, that's my 'how I learned typing' story.
