Impact of changing hosting company
Hi,
We are not very happy with our hosting company and thinking about using a different one. We will keep the same domain and URLs, only on a different server (different IP address as well).
Will this move impact our search engine placements? Any special thing we should do?
Thanks!
Terreri

Hi,
if you move to a reputable host that doesn't block search engine spiders etc, then it should go fairly seamlessly.
Cheers,
Paz.

That means SE recognized a site with its domain name and not with IP address?

Hi,
The domain name has to be the important factor for crawling sites - anything else wouldn't make sense.
Cheers,
Paz.

What if the URLs are not exactly the same?
Hi there,
I just found out that, after moving my website to the a new hosting company I might need to change all the files to a cfm extension. (index.cfm instead of the original index.html and etc).
Will that impact our SE rankings?
Thanks!

Just keep the old hosting on until the traffic is all gone to the new site. There won't be any problem, this is something people do all the time...
I will change one of my hosting too, it was down for a day cause they got hacked, then my site was infecting people with a worm... fixed the pages... now it's down again and I can bet I will have that stupid worm again....

Even if the domain is the same? Why is that?
