I know Google is in the business of selling ads and it does have motivation to rank legit business sites lower so that they have to pay to get listed as sponsors.

These days, the Google natural search results seem really off wack. I just did a search: computer service new york city

The no.1 is the job site Monster. No.2 nyc.gov. The No.4 is craigslist filled with spams. Columbia Univ showed up among the top 10.

Anyway, it seems the search results are way skewed to non-commercial sites or in other words, useless sites.

Wonder what you guys' experience and takes on this.

I've noticed a few edu and org sites creeping into what would normally be "commercial" search terms. I'm not seeing so many spam sites though... just people with better sites than mine.

I am proberbly wrong but in terms of searches I think that Google prefers spammy sites to genuine websites. It never ceases to amaze me how many times I search for something and find a spam site on page 1 whereas on MSN or even Yahoo! this rarely happens.

I would factor trustrank into account for the many edu & org sites rankings.
