Free Links?

Hey there. I found a site advertising in PPC - it is NOT my site.

As a relative junior, while I am aware of the danger of link farms, I thought this was ok and have signed up.

PLEASE let me know if any of you guys either know or think this is dodgy.

It works simply by giving you 5 links to add to your site, and supposedly then your link text is added to the database to be generated at random for upload to other related sites who sign-up. Reasonable concept. Can;t see anything dodgy with it personally, but then again, I'm a gullible one...

This is its home page url www.freerelevantlinks.com
Vey grateful for any advice or feedback...

If you don't care who you link too - or who links to you, it sounds pretty good.

I wouldn't go anywhere near it - nor anyone that uses it.
Sorry.

I think you have to ask yourself "Am I questioning the ethics of this?"....and if your questioning it at all - trying to justify it - then you already know it's a no, no.

"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH"

I swear - there really isn't. Sad, I know.......and I like lunch more than most people. hehe

With the new algo update in 'G', they have limited the scope of 'any kind of' back links.

Now it is important to have relevant BLs than only having BLs. So even if you sign up with any such offers... I don't think it will be much fruitful for you.

Secondly, think it like this.... if it had been such a great offer, most of the SEOs would already have been doing this and in that case does such companies need to create client by sending mailshots, through PPC or whatever.

Hi,

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. It looks better than most link exchange networks because they appear to attempt to find relevant link partners for you.

Exchange linking's getting trickier with every major Google update and if I were you I'd go for one-way directory links and article publishing to start with, until you've got a bit more experience.

Cheers,
Paz.

Hi I run a search engine and to be honest, we now place a great deal of value to where links are coming into a website from. I have just checked my own backlinks using my search engines software and I found a link coming to me from a site that is related to this one so I dropped in to have a look.

From what I can tell the site that is giving you links doesn't sound like it would score a correct link and so it may drop a few points from your sites links scores.
We do use a different method than other search engines, ours is based on content found by the webspider, it does a calculation with the words indexed and the relationships between the word meanings that we found, which is then used to judge a sites content with a factor added to this for the number of links coming into it.
This relates to the scores of the site that links to yours, so a few bad links would drop your sites scores down a heap.
One mention of your domain name coming in from say a site that at some point had spammed a guestbook for example, would make your website get a minus fifty point penalty, which would bring your sites results up on the pages that are about two hundred from the first ones displayed.

And with many thanks to BSolveIT, Paz et al, and with a kick up my own behind for trying to take the easy way out, I am happy to announce the demise of my foray into free links
