Do you want to know?

I've figured out the criteria for ranking a PDF and have been thinking about writing an article about it. I'm curious - how many of you want to know how to effectively structure a PDF to get it ranked?

Ahaaa!!! Now thats in interesting question. Not so much that you could tell us how tio get a PDF to rank well - buit how many of us would find that useful?

That sounds bad - I don't mean it that way. Lets face it - largely the only people that could seriously do with that kind of information are companies that supply a great deal of information in PDF format through their websites. And, at the end of the day, what kind of companies are that stoopid? Only the larger ones. Only the large ones actually bother to licence a copy of Acrobat Professional or CS2.

So ya see what I mean - that latter is actually very interesting. If I know that answer, I dunno that I would share it........well, knowing me, I can't keep mouth mouth shut. I'm born to share....er...or totally unable to keep secrets. It one or ther other? lol!

Actually, quite a few kinds of companies would have PDFs - for example, we have PDFs of some of the graphic design that we've done for clients available on our site. Other companies may have product info brouchures, case studies, white papers, etc. so the need may be a bit larger than it seems

As for CS2, you can make a PDF with a variety of programs. InDesign, Illustrator, Quark, Corel Draw, Photoshop, even MS Word - though in that case, I don't think you have the ability to make certain modifications that would be neccessary for SEO.

Yeah, once you have the right plugin installed you can make PDF's from a bunch of apps. The app plugin comes with CS2, among others.

What I'm referring to though comes from my experience with develoment teams at insurance companies, as an example. They have so much info that frequently it's easier and faster for them to publish it all dynamically in pdf format.

I had a long conversation with developers I was training at Scottish Amicable about the pros and cons because of this very subject.

I'd had a few beers when I typed my post. My interest didn't come out quite the way I intended. hehe... I was just trying to inject a bit of tongue in cheek humour. Thats why I was saying "if I knew how to do it I dunno if I would share it"... meaning it's clearly valuable information indeed.

Note to self:
Stay away from the computer when you've had a few too many! hehe

definately - we provide downloads for users, so they can get a printable price list etc. if it ranks as well, that'd be a bonus

Jlknauff,

I think what you are working on could have many buyers from big to mid-sized businesses.
