Hypothetical Question for the Gurus
Take say, Hyatt Hotels, they have their main site and loads of small location sites. They don't conduct any linking as they have so many inbound links anyway.
Assuming the content is changed regularly, the metas et al are great, the copy is just right as far as keyword density etc goes, they choose NOT to blog for obvious reasons, and have their own RSS feed... what could you possibly do to make it BETTER?

For a site like that, they dont have to make it better.
I havent checked their rankings but I assume its 1 or near 1 on all SE's all from natural links.

LOL... well it's difficult with corporate clients. I've worked with one that had a half a million backlinks!
You can usually find something like accessibility issues. Lots of corporate web sites aren't friendly to visually-impaired people, and they're always very keen to be seen to be doing the right thing when we suggest it.
I would press for the blog anyway, and maybe a discussion forum where people can ask about specific hotels in specific countries, and exchange experiences etc.
Cheers,
Paz.

I wasn't aware that there was an obvious reason not to blog. That's sort of like saying that they don't worry about customer service for obvious reasons
As for tons of backlinks, that really is not a reason not to continue to build links. If you had a natural tendancy to be a fat person, and you figured that since you went on a diet for a year and jogged every day, getting down to your target weight, you didn't have to do either anymore - how long to you think you would be where you wanted to be? The number of links is all a matter of perspective. A handfull may be fine if you are trying to rank for "antique sporting equipment for double amputees" since you're probably the only person in the world selling it, but hotels tend to be a bit more of a competative field.

I like the idea presented about offering a forum. That can be a very big help, people can talk about there stays and how to improve them and what they didnt like. That alone can help out in buisness quite a bit, it will give the perspective client a good idea of what to expect. I helped do this with another website before I started SEO'ing, and it boosted sales threw the roof.
