Using a search engine for marketing purposes

Hi,

We are developing a software product that can be tagged as "Project management tool", "Groupware", "Workflow tool", "Project Process software", etc...

If we map these descriptions to keywords, I would like to know which of them:

- Generate more interest in the potential market.
If possible, I would meassure this as the number of times that sombody looks up these keywords in google.
Does anybody have any idea of how to obtain such a figure?

- Provides more possibilities for obtaining a good position in the search engines
I would like to have a figure that somehow measures this. Any idea?

If I had these two figures I could balance them and choose the keywords that are more attractive to tag my product.

What do you think about this? Does it make sense?
How would you calculate this two figures?
How would you obtain them?

Thanks in advance,
Fran

Well to find the best kw's for your market http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ will tell you traffic, and to get a base to start with check the title tags of your highest ranked competitors.

As for the second, competition is based on how many sites in the serps, how many have high PR, what the traffic volume is of the term, how much people are bidding in PPC (This determines conversion thus attractiveness) and many other factors.

Everyone has their own way to do kw research but the best person to start with is Dan Theis http://www.seoresearchlabs.com/ has some good data on his site, and also is a good guy to talk to if he has the time, which isnt always going to be the case.
Good luck
