Is it bad to point multiple domain names to the same website?

I know search engines don't like to see dulplicate content on multiple sites. Is it bad to point multiple domain names to the same website? For example, if I had a yoga site, can I point my hypothetical domains, yogamats.com, yogasupplies.com, and yogastuff.com to my main yoga site? What is the best way to do this? A redirect, domain forwarding, or something else?

either a 301 if it's already hosted or a domain forward if not

Yep, incorrect... a 301 redirect is completely fine and search engine friendly.

So if I have four domains and would like all to point to the same location, what is the best practice here to do that? Forward at the registrar level?
