Adding a sitemap Via Webmaster Tools!
Ok here's my situation. I have my own domain now (ferociousfeline.com), which has a wordpress blog installed on it, and i have been playing around with the google webmaster tools. I want to add a site map to my blog, since i am planning on adding more and more static pages. So i created a page and linked to all my static pages and my blog catagories, but i guess it automatically chooses the extension of the page cuz when i added my sitemap to the webmaster tools, i received an error saying the file of sitemap was unacceptable.
Ok i can understand that, I half didnt expect it to work anyways, i didnt assume that i knew what i was doing, i dont....hahah. So how do I acceptibly enter a sitemap for my blog site? In the future i want this to be part blog, part static information. Should i make a Html code sitemap in notepad and upload it? or is there an easier way?

Do you have a link to your sitemap. Most likely you have some malformed XML.
If you are going to be using a wordpress plugin to create the sitemap of your dynamic pages, but also have a bunch of static pages that won't get included, I would recommend creating a second sitemap so it's easier to maintain.

Well, once you have your sitemap together, you need to upload it to the server. Once you do that, then you need to submit it to Google. Google will then give you the name of a file that you need to upload to the server in order to verify that you are the website owner. You will then need to login and click verify to finish uploading the sitemap.
Seems like there shouldn't be that many steps.

Well being that i have never made a site map, and obviously just making a page on wordpress and calling it Sitemap doesnt work, im not sure how to properly create one. I understand the whole submitting thing, cuz i submitted one before and recieved an error that my Sitemap was the wrong type of file.
I havent verified my site either, but i think i may be able to figure that out. I have been researching SEO for some years now, but i have neglected to actually make sites and blogs and what not for a while. I only know basic HTML code that i learned in Highschool, so i'm not sure about parts of actual web mastering.

This page should pretty much answer all your questions:
http://www.google.com/support/webma...c.py?topic=8467
The basic Google sitemap looks like:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap/0.84">
<url>
<loc>http://yoursite.com/1.html</loc>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://yoursite.com/2.html</loc>
</url>
</urlset>
Just real simple XML for each page that you have.

Auliya, its very easy to make a G friendly site map. Make a xml site map from here http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ (simply type in your url and click start) and then download the un-compressed XML Sitemap to your desktop.
Paste it in the root of your web and link to it from just one of your web pages (use one thats not in the SI) then just publish

You are in the home stretch. Just stick it in the root of your web where you see your web pages, then preferably off the footer of your home page crate a link to it. Once that is done publish the web and click the hyperlink leading to your site map (which the file should be named sitemap.xml) copy the url onto your clipboard.
Then all you have to do is go into your G sitemaps and click the link that says add site map and paste the url in the field provided.
