Site has been up for about six weeks. I have had a few hits from crawlers, but nothing going very deep or following .aspx pages. I am considering doing URL rewriting but its a bit beyond me. Its hard to be patient, but I think I have most of my SEO done. Any suggestions? Since I pass variables on nearly every page should I attempt a URL rewrite or not?

I think your in the same boat as me, just be patient ( as they say), then again my patience is very limited - especially exchanging links etc when they say ' your link will be processed in 4 months hmmm yea right. On looking at your site, it looks to have everything in order. Quite a niche market to so I would of thought you'd do pretty well especially as your site grows. Perhpas a better keyword density, shorten your title bit too long. See what you think on this tool. I quite like it : www.widexl.com quite handy for tweaking.

I would actually suggest the ISAPI rewrite for your site, although google can parse a few variables out of each URL and list them, it has a hard time allowing PR to propogate into such pages I "think" because they dont want the PR to get trapped and not propogate throughout its natural course in the web. Either way its advisable.

Im not a fan of creating a different domain for each sub category of your site, you have Compact tractors, Farm Equipment, Lawn and Garden etc all on different sites. In my mind they should all be part of 1 site, perhaps as subdomains but all part of the same site nonetheless. But ce la vie its been done so lets get you ranked.

Obviously you have no PR and likely very few backlinks so it will take some time for those offpage elements to kick in.

Also the pages such as the one I just showed are very dead endish. There is a link back to the homepage and a few links to pictures of the product but what If I want to look at more products or categories? You need some logical navigation within these categories so I can continue looking around once I've looked at a product.

Will also help you push your PR around a little better.

PS if you need some help with it SEO Bob can help you out, we dont do a lot of ASP howver it is something I have asked him to look into for other clients anyways. Oh yeah and I think ZOOlander is a fan of ASP as well

I do want to try and get URL rewiring done. I have looked at the code and its pretty complex. I can handel it, but this is just somthing I work on in my free time (I am actualy a farm equipment salesmen). Are there any good resources out there with a straightfoward explination? Has anyone tackled it? What are the stumbeling points?

Good suggestion with getting rid of the text box. I can come up with a better way to do that.

The subcatagories might not be necessary, however once I get this site filled with data I think it might help keep things more orderly. Also thought keeping things linked in that way might help my PR. As with any product review site, there are thousands of things that need listed. I hope it will help break things up.

I am getting about 150 good hits a day right now and my main page data is starting to show on google. I have yet to get a page rank but that should not be far off, I have been online for a good two months. I do have links from about a dozen good sites. Belive it or not there is alot more on the web than you would expect from such a catageory. I have managed to get about a dozen relevant incomming links.

One thing that I have been struggling with is the site design. My strengths are not in the GUI. Does the site look like some high school project? Obviously everything is done in VB studio which is not good for look and feel type pages.

Alright, I rewrote the URL's that I care about getting indexed. Would it improve my ranking to name my .aspx files after the product names? Seems like it would, but there could be some problems on my end.

Also, do the engines seem to prefer a particular file extension over another. Would I benifit from naming my files .html instead of .aspx?

I personally dont believe filenames give enough weight (If any) to your rankings so dont bother using a rewrite on the aspx portion and as far as SE's go leaving them in aspx for will not hurt you, .net is becoming much more prevailent so SE's wil naturally lean towards its usage, although they seem to have no problem with extensions now be it aspx jsp shtml whatever.

Gotta question. I have been fully online for about two months, not that long I know. I am being very aggressivly crawled by yahoo, but rarely have I had a google hit. Is it possible that segergating my content by 4 different URL's will hurt me in the long run? Is it possible that it could come across as site spaming?
