advise on phpbb2 vs Vbulletin
I need some advise.
I want to start a disussion board using either phpbb2 or vbulletin (not SEO do not worry, I think we have enough)
1) If one uses the archieve features of vbulletin and a mod rewrite does Google consider this duplicate content?
2) How often does vbulletin archieve everything? Do you think google with place less wait on these archieves?
3) What has everyone's experience been with phpbb2 and vbulletin? Usability, search engines, etc
My main concerns are:
-search engine friendly
-easy of use for the end user
-stable.
I appreciate any advise!!!
Thanks

VBulletin, though not free is pretty and has loads of pre-installed features. phpbb2 though and invision seem to perform rather well. http://www.phpbbhacks.com can give you an insight to what you can achieve with phpbb2, and the admin interface is popular. Thing is if you know php you can customize it to death, thats the real advantage of it, as well as the fact that it is free. SEO-wise, well I don't see an issue with either to be honest. The mod_rewrite tool will ensure that spiders crawl you.

Vbulletin is faster and has a very powerful backend to it. Phpbb IMO I dis-like it. Vbulletin is SE Friendly out of the box but a mod-rewrite could make it even more se friendly. It's not a nessary thing to do. Now if phpbb could be just as good as vbulletin I would get it but my forum also runs Vbulletin.
If your serious about a forum and are thinking making money off it I would go get Vbulletin.

Vbulletin is Good but need $$$.
Why don't try invision.
Phpbb is good if you have the time to tweak it.
-search engine friendly
-easy of use for the end user
-stable.
For these I think Vbulletin.

phpbb2 is awesome if you like programming and want things as you like them, plus you can make some sweet spider food that way too. If not, definately don't go for it!

CoffeeBoy,
FYI, you can also demo vbulletin and test out all the features. I demoed it last week and I was thoroughly impressed. I love the control and the ability to make mass changes instantly. Thanks for bringing this topic up.

I know best when it comes time for computers. I am very very very happy with Vbulletin and how easy it is to skin it.

I don't think it is fair to compare V bulletin with open source because one is entirely free and the other is commercial.
So who would vote for PHPBB versus Invision? They are two equals that are both free, that is a good comparison
