Reporting in MySQL

Ok, MySQL database, I want to report out on specific fields within the database - I've logged into mysql via my server but haven't got a clue how I even start.

For example, I want to report out what website address'es people have added to there advertisement (to make sure theres no porno sites or dodgy ones!)

How the hell would I do that? Help!

You gatta know some info such as do you have any sort of db control software that will allow you to view specifc databases through it.

I've messed around with MySql a little bit and from what i've seen there don't have anything like Enterprise manager that SQL2K has.

Anyone else?

Reporting in MySQL

There are a couple of tool available for this. Are you trying to create a basic spreadsheet report? If so, MySQLCC will do this and it's free.

You just write your query, run it, and under the save options is an option to save results as a delimited file. You can then pull that into excel easily.

There are other commercial tools out there as well, I use this one a lot for building queries visually:

It also has a pretty decent import/export utility.

There are a ton of others out there as well.

One quick note - if you have MSAccess, you can download the mysql odbc driver (free) and use access to build your queries and reports, very user-friendly and quick. You just setup linked tables and treat them like local access tables. You can even tell Access to make all queries ansi-92 compliant so they will be portable.

Lemme know if you need any more info.

Bill, thanks for the useful information! Oh, and sorry for the delay replying!

I'll check out the links - I've managed to download the data into a CSV file and imported it into an Access 2003 database, and played around with the data in there.

It's time consuming so if they are tools which make the job easier that's great!
