internal links to home page

I use page name to create all my internal links. So page1.html instead of www.mysite.com/page1.html for example. So all the links to my home page (index.html) are created using index.html.

I'm wondering if it would be better to create all my internal links to my home page using www.mysite.com instead of index.html. If so do i have to use the full path or is there another clever way to do this? Especially as the rest of my site only uses the page names for links.

Also anyone seen benefits of doing this.

Happy new year
andy
