When a domain expires the owner has a period of time that they can still renew it (at a ridiculous price though) before anyone else has a crack at it. I think it's something like 30 days.

I listen something similar, but how do you get first in the list after that 30 days, or u have to be online one second after the 30 days ?

Not neccessarily. Maybe he's not going to renew it. I wouldn't take any chances though

I think the backorder option is made for that. But then if there are many people wanting the domain name it's being aunctioned... you know, to make more money as usual...lol

I'm not 100% sure because I never used the function where I buy my domain name, but that's what I understood from the basic explanation given.

I know go daddy has auctions. There was a number 12 ranking domain www.minibikesonline.com that showed up as expired in google rankings. I put the first bid at $5.00 and then within days (of expiration) it shot up to $65 and I'll someone got it, kept the name, and hammered in a site.

The google serp now says "new site coming" but if you go there you see a decent site with lots of out of stock bikes, the guy obvioulsly trying to place hold the SERP.

Anyhow, godaddy can take you a site that has auction.
