Link out on home page?

Would it be bad to have a link that links out on your home page if you are getting paid to have the link there? I sometimes see alot of successful sites linking out on their home page. But I've heard it's bad. What is everyone elses opinion?

Well, it's bad... it's not really bad like... bad... it's more on a PR point of view that this is not the best, but PR does not really put butter on your toasts. PR was the big thing, but now it's not the rule anymore but it's good to raise the crawl frequency of pages.

To me, a site has to be super excellent or have $ to get a link on the home page. I don't link from the home page, but I get get paid either... lol

It will cause a little PR drain, but that is no big thing if you are being paid nicely to provide the link.

Most of the top websites have links linking out to other websites. I know a few that have been number one for very competitive KW's and link out like crazy.

its totally cool to do so, but make sure you arent linking to irrelevant sites, or casinos and pharm as they are instant flags, just make sure you make a distinction that you sell your ad space for sales generation not to assist others in artificially inflating their link pop or PR

yeah, relevance is the key here. It could hurt your SERP if the linkt-o pages aren't relevant.
