Automated queries to Google
I needs some opinions on this subject. If someone I know uses a software used by many SEO's to track rankings, can that effect your rankings in Google and can that use of the software get you banned.
Also if you can get banned why would this be, mainly because then your competitor can black male you and kill your rankings.
How true is this topic.
Thanks Everyone...

As you said, if automated queries could get you banned everyone would be checking their competitors rankings as frequently as their software would allow.
What happens now is that your IP gets blocked for a short period.

When I go on a "look at some listings" mode and look too fast, then I get barred with the message "your system has a virus... yada yada yada..." and got to wait for a while until it allows you to... now that's a human copy/paste, enter, look... copy/paste, enter, look... and I get barred... it should not be too long with a program... lol

Well since nearly all the mods are in this one, I'd just like to add; "bloody hell Joc, you must be a pretty fast typist to be able to get an IP block for manual searches!"

With an excelsheet and {cntrl-c / cntrl-v}, yeah... I'm the king of the cntrl-c-v... not the last time, the one before, that I redid my cribbage design, I had to redo 1000 page, cntrl-c-v intensive training... lol

In my view if you are generating that too many search query with automated softwares get ready to be banned.........and this is my practical experiance.
Any way a good example is Web Position gold(which is banned now in google just because of automated query).
How ever for low volume search query google never bother...

Naaaaawww... Web position didn't have trouble because they were sending automated queires about their site.
"Get ready to be banned"... yes, you're IP from Google search for a very brief period... but not your web site. In any event, don't most of these allow you to use your api? I know WebCeo does.

Yes the Google API is good but is limited if you have over 1000 queries or you have to do multiple reports for many clients.
All Great Comments Thanks Guys. I still do not understand if Google can penalize your site for using such software. If that is the case people can knock my sites out by running rankings all day long everyday. I have got that wonderful screen a few times I got slack from everyone in the office not able to search Google without entering a password...
