Is it possible?
Do you guys think it is possible to to out rank the #1 site for a key phrase or atleast land on the first page if the key phrase has 2,560,000 competitors. And the #1 site has 2,250 back links by only submitting to free directories? Are there that many free directories? I just think it would be cool to only have one way links. What do you guys think?

I've always done recipricol linking combined with directory submission. I'm just wondering if any one else has pulled it off.

A while back we squashed a certain nation wide company in the bed industry for one of our clients with a similar approach.

Got a bit of competition with this one... not that competitive since it has only 2 ads on the serps page.

I'm 5th today, usually 3rd... 87 backlinks, almost all internal and not using that search as anchor text... everything is possible like jkl say. |

LOL, yes. but they have since stopped SEO (partially due to a drastic change in their business model) and lost close to 70% of their traffic.

Absolutely - and yes, you can do it with free directory submissions, but don't forget about alternative ways of getting IBL's - articles, forum sigs, and the 'ol reliable blog. |
