Well have a look at the registrar if you can set the DNS (if you can't, switch for a real one) and if you can then your hosting usually give you 2 of them... for example ns1bob.net and ns2bob.net (some also supply 2 IP also) that you just have to go set in the domain DNS settings of the registrar so traffic is sent there...
For example, I have the list of all the domains I bought with my registrar (canadian) and I just have to click the domain I want to maintain. I have all the options to park, forward... but I only use the DNS settings in there (well the auto-renew also). If I get pissed at an host (like I'm starting to now), I get a new host for the site, change the DNS for the ones I got from the new host and Voilà... it only has to propagate and the new hosting is active... leave the old one there until you see no more activity in the logs.
