Is this a Spam Technique or Genuine?
I had someone who was telling me they are an "expert" in SEO, but they have come up with something I have never heard of!! Just wondered if this was some super secret I tumbled across or is it basically a spam technique.
Some guy mentioned about something to do with putting in something to do with w3, this is some line of text or something, and then he mentioned "hitting" the site as many times as possible?
What exactly is this, is this some technique for spamming or is it a legitimate technique?
I know that w3 is something to do with html rules? But thats all. Does this rather vague technique ring any bells with you experts? I'm mainly interested in if this guy is a spammer SEO guy or is it some legitimate method.

Zeno - Perhaps he refers to linking to authority sites, which is a good practice. If you'll search the Google forums I'm sure you'll find a bunch of info.
"and then he mentioned "hitting" the site as many times as possible?" Maybe he meant "hitting the pipe"... smiley here

He clearly showed me some "CODE" that had W3 in it, and somehow he was indicating the more you hit the site the higher the rankings.
I asked and he clearly said it was not any kind of spamming. So it was just strange I had never heard of it. But then hey!! I'm no expert so that means nothing

Sorry Zeno, but to the best of my understanding there's no majic code. Could it have been the W3C snippet: <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=referer"><img
src="http://www.w3.org/Icons/valid-xhtml10"
alt="Valid XHTML 1.0!" height="31" width="88" /></a>
If so, this may be added to demonstrate valid code and revalidate but it has no effect on SERPs.

Hai Dilligaf! It looked very similar to that, and it had w3 in the code and he showed me the code I believe it had the word "validator in it, and check, that does seem very familiar.
I think that was what he must have been talking about.
Thanks

 Run-your so called SEO expert is not-what you are talking about is either code that is in every web page, or simply a link to the HTML validator such as
<p>
<a href="http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=referer"><img
src="http://www.w3.org/Icons/valid-xhtml10"
alt="Valid XHTML 1.0!" height="31" width="88" /></a>
</p>
(like Dilligaf mentioned)
To the best of my knowledge, the number of hit has NO effect on your rank. Think about it-if that were the case people would have bots clicking the hell out of their sites.
My advice, stick to this site and you will find the info you need from quite a few real experts.

The one thing I do agree with in this post is that wherever possible it is a good idea to have w3c validated code, this ensures your site is clean of errors and will render with the most compatibility in all browsers. Im not sure what he is reffering to with the clicks. He may be referring to CTP (Click Though Popularity) which is used to determine position in Google Adwords however to my knowlege it is not used in rankings, especially if it was an outbound click away from your site, that would likely if anything make you "less" relevant as people would be leaving via the link

Hi Jeremy.
Actually you know the problem is sometimes people try to blind you with science I think this was maybe one of those cases, He kept saying he had rankings but I could not see his site ranked anywhere..except in directories that themselves were highly ranked.
Seems SEO is one of those things that many persons say they are good at but not many can do it properly.
I want to understand enough to be able to "control" and understand what someone is doing who I am paying to do it, eg. by control I mean to check out if they are truly knowing what they are talking about.
It is like the manager of a car plant, he maybe doesn't know how to build a car but he needs enough information to organize the right peopel to build the cars if you get my point.
Anyway thanks for the tip and it was somethign like that...
Maybe the "hit" was just my misunderstanding or maybe he was referring to backlinks *giving him the benefit of hte doubt" but he was the kind of guy that is a bit tricky and will say different things without necessarily meaning them.
Thanks for your advice its all appreciated as is all the inputs on this board
