Who's using sitemaps?

When the google sitemaps cam out last year there wasn't much of an uptake (IMO). However, a few new tools later it seems some of the SEO crowd are starting to take more of an interest.

I was wondering if it was time I made the transition and added G-sitemaps to my sites, so I wanted to hear who else is using them for thier main sites and if they've any feedback (good or bad) on the system.

Thanks,

I heard people that were ecstatic about them, do no site without them... I also heard people for which they made no difference.. never tried though..

i use sitemaps. although i don't think it helped in any way for our rankings, it did help me figure out why our pages got dropped from the google index.

we use rewriter in asp.net. because of a bug in the .net framework, every page request that was using rewriter was returning a 302 even when the page was shown correctly.

we found a fix for this from other people who had the same problem. since then, our pages are back in the index.

in the sitemap control panel, all the links listed in our sitemap.xml were shown as not found (404). i was puzzled because when i visited the links they all work.

searching around, i came across matt cutts article "ASP.NET 2 + url rewriting considered harmful in some cases".

http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/asp-n...etimes-harmful/

if it weren't for the sitemaps, I'd still be wondering why we got dropped from the google index.

We are using sitemap for our sites. Sitemap is very useful. Sitemap helps in improved spidering & it gives all information about your site to spider.

I use the Google Sitemap a ROR sitemap and the "static" sitemap for the website.

The Google sitemap quickly tells us where Google has trouble crawling your site, and it also tells us the top 20 phrases that client sites rank for - it's an excellent way of showing clients some collateral benefits of seo...
