Question Updated page was in Google, now gone

Hi,

I'm in the middle of optimizing http://www.lifesaverct.com. So far I have added text/html links to the bottom of every page since the main nav are graphic buttons. I've added keywords and description and updated the page title on the homepage. I've updated the titles of the first level subpages, and added links from the homepage to each of the products pages. I've also hidden the links to pages that don't need to be indexed (but they were indexed previously) -- get a quote, contact, links, etc.

The homepage had been reindexed as http://www.lifesaverct.com/ and the old cached one was still in the results as http://www.lifesaverct.com/default.htm. Now lifsaverctc.com/ doesn't even show up when I search site:lifesaverct.com -- any reason why it would be dropped like that?

I am aiming towards the top for the keyword pool fence which doesn't seem that it should be very difficult to place in the top 3 for after looking at the sites that are in the top 3 (#1 will be tough though).

However as of 3/12 Google had indexed the updated homepage, but none of the other updated pages and placed #5 on the results of searching for "lifesaver pool fence". Now it's down to #75, but the page that's being found for that search is now /products.htm.

I'm a bit confused.

Thanks for any suggestions,
ScottW

Hi ScottW,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.

When I checked the backlinks for your site, I found only one, from poolfence.com.

If i do an allinurl:www.lifesaverct.com I do in fact find 15 pages listed, one of which is your index page.

What your problem is is that you are in everflux, which means that because you have too few backlinks, your site isn't being spidered effectively. In fact, in order to find your domain homepage, I had to repeat the search with omitted results. The way to solve your problem is to go out and get some more people linking to you. If you control some other sites, make them link to each other, and that will increase the spiderablity of them all.

Hopefully that answers your question.

SEO Bob,

Thanks for the response. I was starting to give up hope that anyone wanted to respond.

Yes, in the time that passed after I originally posted, it looks like the sitemap addition finally paid off in getting the full site crawled.

I don't understand why the homepage is on the omitted results page, now, when it wasn't before the rest of the site was crawled.

I've been trying to get other safety and pool safety related sites to link to this one, but haven't gotten any responses. A free automated listing I added to a CT specific business site has a redirect, ARGH, but didn't notice this until after.

I'll keep at it.

Thanks,
Scott

One thing that's important to remember is that although the site is important, G is spidering based on a per page basis. What this means is that the relevency of your index page might have been lowered as more relevent search results came up. This would include your internal pages as well that have now been spidered. This is not usually the case though, and I know how annoying it can be to have your index page removed from serps, but it does happen some times - I had the same fight with a site last week.

By adding some relevant content to your index page, and just doing a bit of onpage seo, you should be able to bump it right back up and have it show again.

SEO Bob,

With the latest Google PR update this site has gone from PR3 to PR4 on most pages including the homepage. I added some more relevant content to the homepage, but Google still has the old cached homepage so I guess it'll be a few days before it sees the new and improved version.

The good news is the homepage is back on the first page of the results when looking up the site on Google.

Can I expect to see improved SERPs based on the PR jump or not necessarily? I still only have one backlink. I can't seem to find any relevant link partners, and neither have any other pool fence companies. I don't know why other competing sites with less content and lower PR are being found even without keywords or a description meta tag existing on their pages. I'm hoping this changes with the latest update.

The short answer is that of course you're going to see a ranking jump with the increase in PR. PR is just one of the 100+ factors used when ranking a page - and i really do mean there's probably over 100+ different factors. The difference that pagerank gives us is that it's the only tangible one. Backlinks are great, but they only show pr4 and above when checking them. If i had 1 billion pr1 backlinks i'd have a pretty kickin' site.

Isn't it reassuring when the your SERPS move up?

Congratulations on the PR upgrade and improved serps. Now it's the beginning of the next cycle so you've got lots of time to get things movin.

If you know for a fact that you only have one backlink (and not a bunch of low pr ones), you should really get on that, either start mass emailing related people or contact someone who can help you get in contact with other webmasters.

Oh yeah, one more thing:

If you're trying to find link partners in your industry, I would recommend using a keyword suggestion tool like Digitalpoints (www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion)

Then, you can find high PR link partners in your related industries by using our PR tool, which is www.seo-guy.com/seo-tools/google-pr.php. By using those two tools, you should be able to find link partners if you decide to embark on a related site campaign.

Is there any way to know if Google is intentionally blocking my site from showing up in the SERPs? I have made quite a bit of headway on most of my keywords on nearly every search engine that doesn't use Google as it's provider. So the work I'm doing is paying off, but just not in Google.

I've also finally changed the links that point back to the homepage to using the actual site's URL in hopes that these links will show up as backlinks in Google finally.

I've run some reports on my site for other search engines and am moving up in the ranks on MSN, Yahoo, Altavista, AllTheWeb and Excite. I'm still not showing up anywhere in Google. I think it's a conspiracy. How could I have disappeared entirely from the Google SERPs and move up in all others?

The site was nowhere to be found previously, and now the results as of 4/12 can be seen here http://www.lifesaverct.com/reports/41204.htm

Anyone????

Thanks,
Scott
