Best way to go forward?
Hello, and happy new year. My site has been up and running for about four months now. What i have been doing is adding to my site, trying to make it look better. Adding useful information to relevant forums, and adding my site to directories. However my traffic has not got better. Am i doing the right things here to promote my site?. I know that some directories have said that it may be 6 months before my site is considered, when it is a free submission.
Has anyone got any useful links?

Getting traffic is based on link popularity, so try it at your best. You are doing the same. But what I will like to add is try to write good informative keywords rich articles at different article sites with your signature of your site, also post/comments in blogs which will help you for gaining popularity and will increase traffic.
Also concentrate on SEO, you know most of the traffic comes from SE.
( your site is new and it must be suffering from SANDBOX effect, Once you get out of it you will start getting good traffic )

it really takes time to get a good traffic. patience and hardwork is needed. just continue what you are doing and it will pay off later.

Hi,
The Sandbox Effect is the theory that websites with newly-registered domains (or with pages yet to receive a PageRank calculation) are placed in a sandbox (holding area) in the indexes of Google until actual ranking is counted by google.
There are many different opinions about it, including the view that the Sandbox Effect doesn't actually exist, Sandbox Effect are disputed by webmasters, there is general agreement that the Sandbox only applies to search results from Google, and that results from other search engines such as Yahoo or MSN are not affected
You can take a quick look to check of your site is in Sandbox or Not

promote your site to some classified ads, create press release and quality articles and submit them to Press release and article directories, join forums, create blog and comment on other blogs, use social bookmarking sites, link baiting and link exchange with related, quality and trusted sites...and you need patience on doing this...keep in mind that SEO is a continuous process...
