Yeah, there is *another* whole thread on it over at google webmaster help... and interestingly all Adam Lasnik has to say is
<Quote> " If you've been penalized (in any form) due to a violation of the
Webmaster Guidelines, cleaning up the infraction and filing a
reinclusion request is the fastest and most surefire way of having
that penalty removed."
"That's about all I can offer on this particular issue."
<end quote>
We know that there are penalties associated with black hat techniques etc as per the webmaster guidelines, but a -30 and a -950? I think they're letting us imagine all kinds of scary monsters that aren;t really there... but i could be wrong... as you said BSolve IT; Any real proof with a real example really WOULD be great...

Well I was sceptical too but I actually I saw a -30 penalty placed on seo-guy.com in October 2006 for five searches. Here's the link;
http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/thread14593.html
the penalty's been lifted now, but I saw it with my own eyes, Morgan was #31 for all those keyword phrases. Maybe you can send a PM to serps for more details.

Hi Merlin,
Long time no see. We didn't fix it because we didn't know what was causing the problem in the first place. The -30 penalty is usually associated with thin affiliate sites and Seo-Guy isn't really an affiliate site. We do have a lot of outbound links though (sig files etc.) and at one time we did have a lot of spam in the PPC forums. Maybe clearing all that out helped....
Cheers,
Paz.

I noticed seo-guy had recoverred the other month, I also noticed that
seoinc had come back too. I never bothered trying to recover my site but just
moved on to other sites instead.

i am fairly sure i had it, and am still suffering from it, when you do a search for your site "www.domain.com" and you come 31, you'll belive it to.
and as paz said i had some pretty thin affiliate links on for a couple of weeks before. it knocked my traffic by 35% over night.
anthor thing was, home page was showing grey for a couple of weeks too, where as all the inside pages had normal pr.
still not recovered.
