I just started a site. It is in the very beginning stages. My question is can a blogspot.com site get good traffic and page rankings if properly done?

Hi,

I suppose a blogspot site could get lots of traffic in its niche but once you do hit the traffic and make the move to your own domain you'll lose all the work you've put into your blogspot domain.

To be honest though I very rarely see blogspot domains in the SERPs these days.

I'd bite the bullet and buy your own domain and hosting! There are lots of inexpensive hosting companies who give you a free domain when you sign up.

We have a Blogspot blog that absolutely KILLS IT in the search engines.. It outperforms most of our standalone Wordpress blogs. So yes, it's entirely possible.

A few years in, we did move the site to custom domain name, but it wasn't too bad dealing handling the migration. I'm sure some backlinks were lost along the way, but that's life.
