This morning I received a call from a company who called themselves 1P, First Place. However, my called ID showed Traffic Power. I questioned the sales person and he said they had changed name to 1P. Beware of 1P First Place, for they are Traffic Power under a new name.

Thank you for the update corey, Traffic Power (Now 1p "first place") have destroyed countless online business with their 100% spam practices, if you are a person considering either traffic power or 1p.com "first place" take heed of this warning they will take your $ and destroy your website. I have no fear of reprisal from Traffic Power or 1p as they are the same people and I speak the truth. They will make some lame statement like I am just a competitor and I am slandering them because I want your business, when in actuality I dont even compete in the same realm as these scum so there is no competition to be had.
Take mine and many others advice, dont touch 1p.com or traffic power, or first place or anyone else for that matter who uses pushy sales tactics, calls YOU on the phone, emails you out of the blue, or cant rank their own website

They aren't the first cold-calling SEO company that has changed names. *cough* iCrossing (aka International Crossing aka Traffic Results) -- some name changes are simply to keep up with changing times...and then there is 1p first place.

I recently was taken by Traffic-Power. Their pitch sounded like they would be optimizing a page(s) for our site, creating a link campaign, etc. They threw together a site under a different url to our suprise. The spelling wasn't even correct. I believe they are cloaking. Last check I couldn't even get to the new site they created, url not found. Question is can their practice hurt our site?

If they duplicated your content under this new domain and got it ranking better than the original, then you could potentially be hit with a duplicated content penalty -- if it happens, contact Google and explain the situation.

Yes, it is partially duplicated but probably changed enough to not be the case. How would you know if you are penalized? We already rank lousy.

Hmm...even lousier than before? If it isn't too big of a pain you could modify your content to be even more different -- look at a lot of the posts around on this site and you'll get some good ideas on how to improve your rank without having to go through a 3rd party SEO firm (or at the very least, you'll find a better one).

Also, if their contract doesn't say specifically that your content would duplicated and then never returned to you, you do have copyright protection rights and can also contact Google regarding the DMCA.

Actually they lead you to beleive they are going to optimize YOUR site. Then they create a new site similar (but different) optimized for 20 keywords. Their site gets spidered and the surfer ends up on their site requiring them to click through the "INTRO" to get to your real site. Their sales tactics are very tricky. We've requested a refund and they promptly responded with the following e-mail:
