Hi all,
Just wanted to get your thoughts and feedback on the Yahoo! Directory and the $299 yearly fee, is it worth it? will it help your rankings?
Thanks,

All you're really doing is paying $25 a month (paid annually) for a PR 5 link at best, they keep you pretty far down in the directory unless you're a major company, some categories are worth it I supose, if you can find a directory spot that has only a few links and has PR 6 or 7. it will help a little bit for rankings (not because of PR but because of the link) and when I say a little bit, I'm not 100% sure on how much that is, could move you up a spot...could do nothing. Does anyone know if the Yahoo directory has other websites that use their directory listing like dmoz.org? That way it would get you some other backlinks too. Anyway thats just about the only reason that I would ever pay for a link in Yahoo. I would think it's a pretty good way to help get a website started, just so that you could be sure to get a little bit of PR as soon as possible.

Well I was looking at the free version as I do not sell anything on my upcoming SEO Resource site except placement of ad's and I also looked at the directory it self and I saw redirection links instead of regular text links.
An example for SEO Guy site - http://rds.yahoo.com/S=96062852/K=s...ww.seo-guy.com/
So I don't think it counts really for Google all that much. Is it worth paying $299? I don't think so.

So just to make it clear, if someone doesn't have anything to sell but they advertising on the website, they can try to get into yahoo for free? I'll see if I can dig up the direct link...

Yes if it's not a site where it sells stuff except place Adsense ad's then it's free to submit. If your going to sell stuff you have to pay the $299 fee. However it's taken a very long time to get in for free though.

do seo companies make money from Yahoo!
The reason I ask if seo companies make money from yahoo! by selling this listing, is because I've now had 2 seo companies send me proposals for a new site I'm launching and both have had the submission to yahoo! directory as a key element of seo.
Thanks,
Daniel

It can help for sure (making their efforts easier). if you're planning on hiring a firm,
you can try and find query suggestions on the web. 1st thing I'll check is their rank on SEO terms, their SLA, no cloaking, no spamming, no black-hats etc.
