recipricol links: how?
This is my question: How do you get sites to link to you? Most sites require recipricol link exchanges before you are put on their site, so how do you get links without having links on your site or is it not possible.
I know that if you've got a bunch of quality content, sites will automatically link to you, but what if you're me and you've got a website that sells website templates, the only sites that seem to want to add your link to theirs are in exchange for links to there?
I guess I just want to know the best way to go about getting links to my site. thanks.

Well for me I have 2 sites that are all in the same field of Web Design/Web Hosting. So I exchange links with one site and put their link on one of my other sites. (ex: Have site your site A link to link partner and have them link to your site B) if that makes sense.
This is just one way to do this...

There is no problem exchanging links with some of the sites, but there are some directory type ones that require it, and I'm not going to have a link on my site that takes a visitor to someplace unrelated. You may say, then why would you want to link with a place like that in the first place... well I would not be thinking about targeted visitors as much as the benefit I would get from the link coming into my site and its relation to my pr- even though one link would not matter too much, I'm looking at the long run.

I too dont link out to directories, I hardly link out at all...
Build content that makes people want to naturally link to you, with out asking them, articles, tools, glossaries the list goes on...

well said - reciprical links are worth very little - soon to be completely worthless.

I still think reciprocal links have a place personally, but having two sites so you can link from one and get links too the other is the best way to go if you are on a budget.
