Old farts goals ...
Since registration has been locked years ago, basically anyone here is an SEO old fart, with a good 5 years experience... and no wonder there is no spam at all here hey !
So, how did you guys do since the forum was more active... you got better and let go of the day job, or you have more job cause you have staff...
I still work only on my sites, do better every year, and really can't complain. I passed the goals I had, so it's cool...
What about you... did you pull off the goals you had ?

I'm doing SEO full-time for agencies and clients using all the lessons and experience I've acquired here over the years.
I'm working with some huge names but the big clients can be a bit of a pain, which is why I'd like to work for myself as you do one day.
Even getting a page title change from "Home", say, can take months. Often changes have to be approved by 2 or 3 departments and then have to go to head office for final approval.
I'm still loving SEO though.....

i let go of the day job - had too really, web design shouldnt be stressful but it was at the company i worked at before. hard to design or think about new concepts when you're always wondering if the boss is going to go nuts on someone in the office....
nice thing was when i left and went self employed, some of my old clients jumped onboard for SEO and ongoing support - which was great for confidence and also let me hire a programmer. i did think a few times in the last couple of years about getting a job somewhere but it is picking up nicely and everyone happy so no need.
the most suprising thing about being self employed and working for anyone anywhere is that sometimes i do SEO work for other web developers - it is shocking how clueless most of them are about even the simple things like not using javascript for navigation, and how they will blag clients that its the best way.
i had an angry dev call me not long ago because "one of his friends is an SEO and the site i worked on wasnt SEO'd at all. what did i think?"
i told him to type his keywords into google and look for himself. and this guy is supposedly a web developer, amazing. and a lot of these guys sell SEO services which is a bit scary... "we'll sell SEO services but we don't keep track of your current rankings or use analytics". meh.
i think if you do the job properly which you two guys do, it can only get better as clients come onboard and stay. i always liked the white hat approach this forum had - it never concentrated on ways to get rich quickly and get domains banned or ignored.
stay cool

frustrating isnt it i know the feeling. often the client in question will need my input right away, pronto, as a priority. lets have a power meeting somewhere about it, 8AM tomorrow kind of thing.
and then it will take them months to implement changes. clients!
just give me FTP access and forget about it and we'll all be happy.
i am glad you both still enjoy SEO and participate on here.
it would be a nice pipedream to setup another forum that is open for new members and invite all the good users on here as moderators.
EDIT - hah i always go off topic. yep passed many goals - next one is to buy somewhere i can build a proper office in and get people working in, rather then working remotely. then i can shoot them with nerf guns in the office and play LAN quake on off days!

I retired years ago from running hi tech companies. I launched my site at that time to augment my retirement and give me something to do. My site uses very little of my time anymore. Due to my content, the authority backlinks stay and even increase with no effort from me. The rankings are good to excellent and stable. Sales are down due to the economy but still pays my bar tab.

Hey blackstar... long time no post... lol
It's cool that you now run your own show... congrats !
It's not just clients that are dim most of the time... I helped a guy with his hunting site, and in no time, I basically told him to go F*** himself. He was getting free help, but he still act as an idiot enough to annoy me.
Some can only see what they had when they lose it...
Yeah, the forum here is kind of dead... a post here and there... but we sometimes get a crumb of news from a member... like now...
Once I reached my goals, I decided to not grow or have employees... cause it would then become a real job. I prefer to chew in life like if tomorrow was my last day. I spend my summers driving or biking around taking pictures of animals and doing Macro-Photography of insects... I just work on the sites when it rains, or when it's winter.
Getting a forum to stay busy is hard... it was here, but members and mods got too busy I guess. Was fun... but the same happen to microsoft-chat, other forums and other internet chit-chat sites... at one point, they just threw the towel on the ring. It can turn into a whole lot of wasted time...
It's cool you posted, and nice to see some pulled off what they tried to achieve... nice work !
Keep doing what you do best !

Yeah good to see you blackstar!
I don't think this forum's dead just yet but I'm sure one day Morgan will just cancel the hosting or not renew the domain. I made an offer to buy it via a private message but never did get a reply.... Should we maybe set up a private meeting place/forum/platform for selected guests so we can all keep in touch after seo-guy shuts down? Please don't suggest a Facebook wall or something... I loved the threadwatch.org concept.

I browse around seochat, but don't really post... and it's full of dull threads. I also go to cre8asite... to sniff if anything of interest was posted, and there is never any spam there.
Beside that... I don't go anywhere online beside youtube... I make stuff for the web, but don't really use the web...
If I had to pick one, I'd invade cre8...

I browse several SEO forums without posting; to include cr8. Cr8 just feels sterile to me. No emotion or fire. No fun. I feel the most at home at SEO Chat. Maybe it is the fond memories of times past. A lot of garbage on there but I ignore all that crap.

Well, fun has gone a long time ago on the forums... they kind of turned serious and boring at one point.
