If you only had time to do one of two things??

I know BOTH are important. But if someone had a gun to your head (or ya only had enough time to focus on one task), which would you concentrate on:

Adding content pages or trying to get more incoming links?

Seems as if push came to shove, adding pages is the way to go since the time spent at least guarantees something, i.e. the content. I could spend equal time trying to get links but might not get many at all.

Any opinions??

I'd go for links.

More content = more pages to optimise = even more links to get.

Unless of course you expect people to find your site in some other way, and be pleasantly surprised by the new content (and hopefully expressing their joy by spending money - heh).

Furthermore - making fresh content, and getting it right, is bound to take more time than expected. But you can stop link building anytime you want.

Just my two eurocents

I would go for content.

The more pages you have, the bigger your SE "footprint"

All good points but creating the pages is simple. I have a basic template, the only variables from page to page is the actual ad copy (so to speak). We sell nutrional supplements and like most of our competitors, each product page's content is basically the manufacturers ad copy. It's a cut and paste type of thing. Time wise it's easy. Adding more and more products seems like a surefire thing. If only there were 48 hours in a day......

Go for content. You can always add links later.

I'm with wit on this one. What good is hundreds/thousands of pages of great content that nobody sees. I think it's best to get a site functional and then climb on the links, particularly if it's a new site as it's been taking them forever to rank for anything anyways.

My perspective on links is that I may not see the value for awhile, so i better get them in the bank early. Once you're getting crawled daily that fresh content will be of greater value IMO.

If your site already has good content then I would say "incoming links".

I agree links would be best. It probably takes the most amount of time. During this time the guys arm would start to ache and he would have to put the gun down and you could make your escape.

I'd have to say content.

Why?

You have the ability to cover your bases as far as what the SEs want to see by shear number of pages AND at the same time you can target an easier kw(s) that will/can lead to your main kw.

It's the "By Way Of China Route" of site building that really works and works well.

Just my 2 cents.

Chris
