Google un-indexed link pages

Google un-indexed link pages

Google recently decided to un-index my links pages. Formerly the pages were all indexed and cached.

Trying to find out if I am linking to too many sites that don’t link back. Or if my link pages violate some sort of censor. I’m thinking there might be a few to many adult sites using profanity in their description.

I have other sites I am bringing up with less PR and rank and those link pages are all indexed and cached. So I feel I am shooting in the dark as for where to go on this

Hi,

a page going missing from the index isn't always a penalty, but like you I would be worried if it went missing for more than a few days.

I don't know if G. censors adult sites for profanities, as such, but they do have a filter in their "search preferences" to filter out adult sites, but that's different from a penalty isn't it? (I've seen your other post, but I can't see G. dropping pages from their index for swear words, I really can't!)

One problem with adult sites is often they use spammy tactics. If I were you, I would start with a really thorough look at the sites you are linking to.
Do any of them have traces/hints that they are banned? If you are linking to a banned site from your links page, then that might be the reason it has been dropped.

Cheers,
Paz.

Well I know some of the sites I am linking to are using all kinds of spammy techniques. Multiple duplicate content sites, redirects, ect, ect.

How do you know if they are "Banned" is there a list or filter I can apply to test a site I am linking to.

BTW ; My directory page is indexed and cached, just not the actual links pages themselves. Also when all this started I lost about 30% of my BL's

This is very true, but maybe I should have been more accurate in my original post and probably should have said "penalised or banned". There's a difference.

Banned sites are easy, grey PR as you say, but they're quite rare. There is a spectrum of other penalties that apply. It's very difficult to make a list here, but I would start by using Google's cache to see if the homepage is indexed and cached.... If it's not, then that doesn't always mean a ban, but I would contact the link partner to see what's going on.

Cheers,
Paz.

I am still having trouble with G on these links pages. I have sites with very low rank, same directory structure and layout and those link pages are indexed and cached. I have 1 site with 100% exchanging links and those pages are un-indexed. I have another site decent PR and 100s of BLs and those pages are un-indexed.

Hi,

how about adding some text to the missing pages. Maybe G decided in the latest algo shift that they were a list of links with no benefit for searchers. More importantly, and as I said already, have you checked the people you are linking to? Are any of them banned?

Also are the missing pages called "links", with anchor text "reciprocal links" and any other giveaways like that?

Anyway, you should probably start getting a new "resources" page ready.

Cheers,
Paz.

I wouldn't use a filename "links.html", the anchor text "reciprocal links", or the text "link exchange" etc. anywhere in my website. It stands out like a sore thumb with the search engines.

You can edit your text quite easily, and you can start a new "resources" or something original, and put new links there, but if you already have a page called links.html, then you have some difficult choices (but that's only my opinion).

Cheers,
Paz.
