G showing link URL instead of page titles in search results

All of a sudden, G has stopped showing Page titles to my forum (www. accountancy. com.pk/forum) and in its place only urls of the pages are being displayed in results. However, the link titles of the rest of pages of the site are being shown as before.

Is it an ominous development? What could be the reason?

Hi,

I've had a quick look. Yes, you're forum pages have gone into the supplemental index. It's not great, but in your case I'm sure it's just a glitch rather than a penalty, and that they will be back in the index soon. Give it a week a two, if they are still "url only" get back to us.

Cheers,
Paz.

Thanks for the quick reply paz.

There are about 12000 indexed forum pages, and most of them have gone supplemental, but interesting to see that a very small number of them are still showing titles.

Paz, you say that my case couldve been as result of a glitch, but can you please tell what are the common reasons which cause pages to go supplemental and how to avoid it in the future?

Hi,

The url's often go like this because either:

There's too much duplicate content between pages.
The pages are stale, or are not linked to in the site anymore (ie are orphaned).
Google's mis-behaving, and the pages will be back in the main index after the next deep crawl.

I'm pretty sure that the latter applies to your site.

Cheers,
Paz.

Hi,

The navigation looked ok to me, and there's not much you can do about the forum navigation is there?

One thing you can do (just as a check) is have a quick look at your server logs and make sure that Google is spidering your site OK, and that there are no problems there.

Cheers,
Paz.

This happened to me a few weeks ago - over half my pages were showing only url when I 'site:www.mydomain.co.uk', in GG - had me worried for a while. Then, hey presto, all back to normal with title and description.

Think GG been busy elsewhere these past few weeks
