Post-Jagger more weight on anchor text.

OK, I have been doing a little bit of experimenting this week.
I have a site offering at the moment 1 (Or some say 2) simple services, and the site is ranked #1 in Google for the keywords associated with these services. So things are good.

ANYWAY..... I have been working on version 2 of my site. It offers another 2 services. So 4 in total. In preparation for its release today, I have been doing some minor (And I mean pretty minor!) link building work. Last week I got about 10 links, and a few more from my own network to link to my site (Not the new version) using my new keywords as anchor text.

Now, Google has ALREADY ranked me #1 for these two new keywords for my two new services (As well as keeping #1 for my current keyphrases). My current site does not even MENTION the new services. It is nowhere in the text or anything. if you go to my site, the services are not there.

My point is, that I think since the last update, Google has added even more weight to anchor text. Just a little tip for Y'all.

I love it!

Hi,

thanks for the tip! I have a couple of questions though...

How competitive are the keywords (new and old), for example how many results are there in the serps?

Secondly, it's true that google places great weight on anchor text, but are you absolutely sure that there's NO mention of the new keyword phrase on the page (not even in the meta tags), or anywhere else on the site?

Cheers,
Paz.
