Ok, I am really new to web design and especially SEO work. I was wondering if some one here had a list of SEO terms and their definitions.

Some terms I wonder about:

backlinks - Are these links to my site, from my site? both?????

mod rewrite

supplemental index of google

SERPS


There are many more I can't think of off hand but when i see them I find myself wondering what in the world they mean.

Mod rewrite is a method to make urls with dynamic urls more SE friendly. Maybe I'll add something about mod rewrite later, but your site is Windows hosting isn't it, and mod rewrite (usually) only applies to Apache-like hosting.
