subdomain Vs web folder (which one is better)
This is always confusing term for myself that which one is the better way of search engine promotion between Subdomain or Folder, sometimes i feels that Subdomain is better and take high advantage on SE, but some times I feels that this is not good for SEO,
I need to discuss this topic, advantages and disadvantages of both term (subdomain and web folder)
Example:
http://website-promotion.kneoteric.com or http://www.kneoteric.com/website-promotion/
In the both term which one is the most sufficient way of website promotion on search engine

Did a simple search for keywords: google, yahoo, msn, rediff, indiatimes, microsoft, cnn
Results what I found is sub domains for each topic, terms, services provided by them
My own understanding is I should keep images, css files, JavaScript files and include files in a different folders, because it is easy to manage, collectively all files folders create a website, that is one single entity. Web information can’t be off topic. It should not be, or reader will get confused, I hope search engines do think in same way and they count it One single website.
If you have more then one topic or you want to display different information you should use sub domains, that will give a clear idea; say easy to understand for search engines and public too. So I will prefer to use sub domains if I have real different content to display.
And once I have too many different subjects to talk about, too many services to offer, I have a big website I should feel. So search engines
This what I feel

I never use subs... they are like sites of their own and you need to promote them (get links) just like a standalone site. A folder is part of the main site and you can link to it as much as you like... a sub, being a site on it's own, will not be seen the same way... may look like a site-wide, crosslinking...
An other thing that bugs me about the subs is that they can take over pages and pages of serps... we all know that SE will not really like to show serps that have pages of the same site... so if by luck... or badluck, you happen to have a too high presence in the serps for a phrase, you can get sliced and diced. I've seen pages of the same site pop in the serps... but just for a while... then they vanished.

I got a suitable answer, if I have huge amount of pages in a folder then I must prefer to create a sub-dom.
Example if I have 1000 pages in one folder then I must create a sub-dom,
But for a small amount of pages a web-fold. is good

i dont like the idea of creating separate subs based on the number of pages in a category. But i like the idea of having subs for different types of services/products. eg seo.xyz.com, webdesign.xyz.com, graphics.xyz.com as these services can also be marketed separately.
While saying this, must agree with joc that having subs has its own set of problems.

I dont really use subdomains much. They are too tiresome to maintain, I prefer folders or better yet,a complete new site!
