Reference_Tags

I have been using a tool called keyworddensity that compares 2 sites with regards to the keyword you input. I have compared my site to several others and one of the things they seem to be beating me on is keyword density in the "reference tags"
I am wondering what are reference tags, are they important to SEO, and how do you write them?

Thank you

If they have better SE placement I bet it has more to do with the number of links that they have coming to the site rather than the number of times a keyword is repeated.

Yup,

I agree that you should probably be looking at links rather than on-page factors. I wouldn't igonore the tags though. Have a look at the SEO Guy tutorial to see how thry can work.

I took a quick look at your two sites. On the one for dogs, you don't have very many keywords to begin with, and none of them are very descriptive. Those will beat you up because, in your market, too many others are going to be found under the words you chose.

On the other site, what might be hurting you is that, in your keywords, you have periods rather than commas, or nothing. There's always debate as to whether one should use commas or nothing, but most agree that periods are a bad thing.
