Linking to the middle

Hello-

How important is it to have links pointing to pages in the middle a site? I have product that is two levels down from my home page. Should I focus a few IBL to these pages? How much will this really help? Is it worth it?

FYI I already have a site map next level down from my home page.

Thank you in advance for the input!

If you're trying to intentionally target the product that's deeper, definitely point some links to it. For sure it would be worth the effort.

2 levels/clicks from the HP is good but presumably not enough,
when U R tryig to promote several products, U should spend the time on on-page optimization as well as on fitted IBL's.

this perception will:
- increase your serps performance
- lead to more ref's
- allow you to examine what are your popular products
- allow you to understand where do potential buyers find your pages links
- allow you to find out what are the most popular search-terms surfers use on their way to your site

good luck.

It is definitely a good idea. Not only will it drive very targeted traffic it will also help the PR of that page. Also, keyword rich text links should help too.

I'm gonna have to go with Jocelyn on this one (provided Google updates PR at some point)... wait until your home page is PR-5 as everything will get hit more frequently, then target specific interior pages.

I have found that I have to work (in the case of popular keywords) 1 keyword at a time. Build my target page Usually right off the main page. And then have subpages with the target keyword in the title pointing at it. You will notice many of the top sites show there internal pages as backlinks. big sites have the same keyword plastered in the title tag and then a link to the page they want.
