Need anchor text links
Hi.
I'm going to be targeting a new keyword for my home page.
The keyword is "family history".
It's a competitive keyword and I really could use some help with getting a lot more text links that use this keyword as the link.
I'm not concerned with PR. Just need lots of links for this keyword.
Open to all link exchanges, PM me if interested.
Thanks.

Instead of PM its a better idea for people to post their exchanges in open so others can see them as well and might not realize they were exchanging links.
Mel, what kind of sites are you looking to exchange links with? I realize that your site is VERY targeted so its hard to be very relevant, do you have any suggestions as to the "type" of sites you are looking to link with. Please dont just take a link from anyone as non relevant links are really worthless. Perhaps you could write an article to put on others sites about family history and use that as a method of link exchange that way the contextualization of the link consideration is high.
You can do this here as well, if you want more instructions no problem just let me know

I am looking to exchange with web sites that are about the following:
genealogy, family sites, history (world or local), DNA sites, genealogy software,
genealogy books, cemetery related, obituaries, ethnic related items (like Irish Jewelry),
Travel (genealogy tours to visit homeland), heraldry sites (crests, coat of arms), old photograph sites, biography sites, historical societies, libraries.
I've only had one link exchange in response to this thread. So, if anyone knows of anyone who has a relevant site that wants a link exchange PLEASE let me know.
It's been very difficult getting relevant links.
My site moves around 140 in the SERPS for family history. At this point, I think it's almost impossible that I'll see the top 20 for this keyword.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Melanie

Hi Donna.
Yes, I think that web page could be considered related. You mention family traditions and your title for the page is "History of Christmas Traditions..".
I'd be happy to exchange links with you. Thank you for the offer.
I placed your link on my tools.html page.

Thanks Donna,
interesting how sometimes we have to think outside the box for partners that are still relevant. Melanue I feel for you as it must be tough finding 100% relevant partners that also appreciate the value of a good link. It just doesnt seem like your vertal is to SE savvy.
What about trying things like "family counseling" or different types of history sites like "war history" etc just suggestions but relevance can follow many lines
Like if you are a real estate agent in phoenix you can exchange links with all sites relevant to real estate, but also all sites relevant to phoenix you dont have to have both so that helps. Try picking apart your phrases a little more and see what you come up with.
Good luck

Seo Guy,
Hi. Another problem is that alot of the personal genealogy sites haven't been worked on in a long time. Their email addresses aren't current and the last worked on dates are from years ago.
I send out about 50 link exchange requests a week. I usually get a lot of email returned because their email address is no longer valid.
And, the others I never hear back from.
I created a cemetery page hoping that giving away valuable information would help get me some links. It's not working. I got about 2 links. I wrote to what I consider the "major sites" in that field and told them I put their links on my cemetery site and would appreciate a link back. I didn't hear from one of them. I did keep one or two of the links up because visitors would be interested in them. But, the others I took down after a month.
I even scanned and put online an old yearbook, just to get two links from the county genealogy web page. That's a lot of work just for the two links. But, I'm going to see if any of that traffic goes to my genealogy business pages. If so, that might be the way to go. So, far only two followed click over to the site ... and i think it was me
I thought about writing an article. But, I'm not a very good conversational writer. Just see my site.
Sorry, I don't mean to whine. It just gets frustrating sometimes.

Family history is often all tied up with the family home. Lots of real estate people around this site selling family homes. Perhaps if you dreamed up an article that tied family history to family homes, or into which agents could insert an example of a historical home and family from their area? If you could work out something that was a bit like a template article that local interest could be added to, there could be a huge potential for links.
Just trying to think ouside the box, but at this hour, I think I might do better to think my way to bed!

Hi LaryL.
I don't think I'd be able to write a generic piece on a historic family home. They all have their own stories to tell. And, actually there are other professionals that research house histories. I research the history of people, sometimes this includes researching deeds. But, it would require a lot of research to write up an article on a specific house.
Thanks for trying to help.
