Pagerank

Hello,

I wonder if I exchange links with a site which has got just the same amount of PR as I have on my link page, do I get any benefit whatsoever from the link except of course the visitors who follow the link?

Best regards,
Trond

Hello Somtan, you need to take into various things other that just whether the site has the same PR. I believe it is beneficial to link to anysite which offers good content and which you think your visitors would like. Dont get caught up in the "I'm only linking to increase my PR" theme. If you refuse to link to someone with no PR, and its a new site, they may refuse to link to you once there PR is established. I believe the saying is:

"Be nice to people on the way up the ladder. No matter how successful you become. You will find that they will be nicer to you when you are on the way down"

Hello,

Thanks for your answer.

I know what you mean, and I do actually link to quite a few pages with PR 0 even though it means I'm "loosing" PR at the present. I'm just interested in knowing exactly how this PR stuff works in detail. Like I said, I know what it is and what it does in general, but have know deeper knowledge of it. I do actually already follow your saying .

However, unfortunately (As I see it), most web site owners have completely ruined most of the value from reciprocal linking by hiding their link directory with small text at the bottom of their pages, so most of the benefit you get from doing it is actually from the pagerank. All this does is making the visitors clicking the x instead of exiting through your link pages. Why? They would have left anyway.

This site has an excellent illustration of this, and I would like to encourage all people who use reciprocal linking to follow their guidelines: http://www.honestlinks.com

Best regards,
Trond.

Here are a few links that you should read to make sure you'll understand how the "page rank" works.
