Why don't I have traffic?!
I work for a commerce site and we have a local company taking care of our SEO. We've been open for almost a year and still only have 150-200 unique visitors a day! I keep asking them when things are going to pick-up and all I hear is it takes time. It this normal? We have content, we have links, but no traffic? Any thoughts?
'm new to the SEO world so any advice is appreciated.

It depends what industry you are in... like if you have a casino, well patience will be needed... if it's an easy niche, then you should look into this.

Tom… While I would agree that the traffic could be better, I am curious if you know what percent of your visitors lead to a conversion. I ask that because it would put things in a very different perspective.
Some niche sites with say 2000 visitors a day or even less could have the potential more money than a site that has 10,000 visitors a day. It’s really about conversions and not necessarily traffic. Tom, don’t let me confuse you; increased traffic does increase your odds of getting a conversion immensely but on the other hand, increased traffic certainly does not guarantee it.
Also are you doing any SEM with this company or is it straight SEO?

as all have mentioned, it all depends on the keywords you are targeting. Casino, travel, diets and so forth are very competitive. Niche keywords should be easier to rank well.
Typically, I always recommend my clients to do PPC when engaging in an SEO strategy as it does take time. over time you should be able to lower your PPC budget as your organic rankings improve.
Double check your keywords and look at your web analytics and see what users are doing. This should confirm if you are targeting the correct keywords as well and/or help you with site usability.

I agree with jocelyn, your traffic would depend on the kind of your site. If your site is full of contents and has interesting topic or article it can get more traffic. If you really want to get traffic. Try PPC campaign.

Quoted to agree.
You need to collaborate with your local SEO company. SEO program do take some time, but if done correctly, can greatly help your company's revenue target. If the traffic you are saying is mostly quality visitors, ie really interested in your site's business, there's no problem about that, as long as the effort of the SEO company is converting to sales or profit for your company.
I suggest to collaborate with the representative from your local SEO company and also try to familiarize SEO program. The real key is collaboration...
My two cents worth...
