Anyone hear any news about redirecting an index domain name to a different new url and what happens in search engine.

Example: I have a website with a long domain name so I put up another site with a shorter domain name and redirected the long domain name to the shorter domain name.

I've been watching the results and notice that the rank I had with the longer domain transfered to the new site I put up with the shorter domain name.

thats normal.. and it usually takes time to transfer all the rankings...

it's indeed normal, but make sure that you also redirect from page to page and not only the index page !

that's right....redirect the entire domain, not just one page.

be sure you're doing a 301.
