Please forgive my question if it sounds naive. Our counseling and psychotherapy web site (www.northsuburbancounseling.net) has had page one placement (in addition to Google Local) for 2 years now thanks to the many things I have learned from this forum to put into place. Recently, however, (this past month) when I test our placement (typing in "couples counseling reading ma" or some other local town in my search string) we have dropped off of page one. I just checked my pagerank and it went from a 4 to a 3.

I recently dumped my server due to downtime issues and am now on another server (Webzpro). I have new a primary domain in the new server account for our new life coaching web site (www.northsuburbancoaching.net) and was able to put a secondary domain within the same account and directory tree for our counseling and psychotherapy web site (www.northsuburbancounseling.net).

My question is, can sharing this common account between my two web sites effect my search engine placement and page rank?

You probably lost rankings because your original server was going down.
I've changed servers on several sites and never encountered problems.

njb - sorry i didn't look at your website the first time around.

1 - Why do you have 2 domains for same site? i would suggest you only use 1, its not good to have duplicate websites. You can get penalized for this.

2 - I would condense your title and remove 'For A Better Quality Life'. Meta title should be between 7-10 words.

3 - even though meta keywords have little affect, you should condense these too. You dont have to use the words 'counseling' or 'psychotherapist' over and over.

4 - I dont see the words 'Couples' or 'Reading MA' any where in your content. You should add 'Couples' in one of your page titles and use 'Couples' and 'Reading MA' in the content. Don't over do it..

5 - your drop downs are a pain in the neck. They stay open and dont collapse.

The server itself will not cause any drop or increase in ranking but the optimization of your server will help in both effects either by helping make sure that your pages are available to your visitors in a 24/7 basis.

Server optimization is done by SQL remote DBA experts. Make sure if you hire one that they are Microsoft Certified.

Server change can have effect if there might be long delays among the transitions but temporary updates and shifting might be nothing to worry about. Unreliable servers can damage the websites indexing status many time.

They may not affect each other. Common problem on sharing/the same IP is that, when one of the domain there is penalized by Google, other might be on hit too since they have the same IP.

Thanks everyone for your help. I totally rewrote the page copy on the life coaching site and now my counseling site has come back to page one whenever someone types in "counseling reading ma" or any of the other towns that we serve.

I am now in the long tedious process of starting to slowly build back links to the new life coaching site.

I have been successful at getting onto the front page of Google, whenever someone types in "life coaching reading ma" and most of the other towns that we serve.

Hopefully, the new site will get listed by DMOZ sometime this summer (I submitted in January, and I remember my counseling site took 6 months)

You can be penalized for having 2 domains for same site. Change IP addresses without making technical errors, shouldn't affect your ranking.
