Which is more beneficial : to have a single big website with many sub-domains or multiple websites?

Humm... we both said a single site, except for the subdomain part. For subdomains, I don't use them, I prefer the simplicity of folders. The thing is subdomains used to be treated as different sites... maybe it's still the same... I don't care cause I do what I do regardless and I use folders period.

Since I don't play with subdomains, I cannot say if it would be better... but I know a single big site (well structured) will do what I want better than many little sites.

well a single website works.. and you can just add subdomains depends on its purpose...

I would suggest single website with different folders until and unless you want to create a mini site which is totally different.
A sngle website with folder structure passes domain value to sub folders also so it would be easy to rank.

If your thinking about having multiple basic sites as apposed to 1 main site will all subdomains, then I would go with 1 main site with subdomains. Get as much packed into 1 site as possible.
