A Links Con By Webmasters
HI PEOPS NEWBIE HERE
I recently got myself into this necessary evil of SEO. My current PR is 4 which of course would like to raise to 5 at least. When looking at my links through a little tool called Web Bug, I noticed that the links page of my reciprocating links even though was visible; when visited by a spider or similar actually pointed to ambient rock music; a page with no real links except of course the webmasters own. So should I remove him ? Probably Yes but dont tell him. There are a few sites in my links which are like this so be careful people. There are some clever script writers out there.
Secondly, can anyone tell me why even though my site is PR4, with Alt tags, respectable keyword heading, description etc why people with a lower page rank and no intrest in my related keywords are appearing higher up the list than I am ???? I cant work this one out....

Another Question for you SEO Guru's ..... I was firstly using I.T in my meta tag; then I ahd the feeling that it was a stop word; as the results coming back to me were pretty low key. So I thought I cant use I.T and I cant use IT ( to common) So I used computer sales .... Is the above correct ? Thanks in advance peops. I think I'll spend half my life in this forum from now on ....

When you get a link request, you must look at the page offered, look for NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW in the meta tags, look for exclusions in robots.txt, look if the link is javascript or text, look at some of the linked sites to see if this page shows in their backlinks when it's PR4 or more.
If your site is fairly new it will take a bit of time before it's given proper credit.
Lower PR does not mean that your higher page will get them... optimisation, backlinks anchors... can beat you at it... or cloaking...
Sorry for the stop words... I'm french and don't really know which words these would be and what they do for serps...

lots of possible reasons.
too many to just guess at.
you cant simple narrow it down to the few parameters that you mention.
the answer requires a comparitive study of all on-page and off-page factors of your site and the others in question.

Thanks Jocelyn, the cheak of the man when I use web bug from www.cyberspyder.com
it even says : You requested the following:</p>
<p><tt>/resources.links.shtml</tt></p>
<p>Unfortunately, I can't find!
Quite cheeky really, clever though. I'll give him a lil bit of respect. There are a few which just dont scan the body of the text like you said may be the in the robot command.
Heres another one for you guys TO CACHE OR NOT TO CACHE THAT IS THE QUESTION. I've seen a few top sites opting for the no caching option on their metatags; I have no idea of the advantage really; this better for more established sites >?
