questionable spam?

You have to watch out for ones that harvest emails off the web. It is one thing to email a webmaster who specifies this as the prefered contact method, it is another to harvest the email off whois or other sources and use this email to contact them. Especially since this many webmasters have link submission forms.

Waddle has a good a point, some webmasters would receive unsolicited link exchange invitations as spam. Some also welcome them. I would always check out the site and make sure it's relevant to your own site and that they do in fact exchange links with other sites before sending an unsolicited link exchange invitation.

I am however, taken a aback that my original post was removed and replaced with "questionable spam?". I posted a link to an article which is a discussion and review of several link exhange products and services, in a forum titled "Web design and promotion articles". I don't see how it could have been more on-topic.

It's likely because you are posting links to outbound sites your first post which is of course allowed but it does raise flags, I didnt see the post so I cant comment however I trust my mods judgment. Also perhaps I should have made the description of this forum more clear currently it says

"Submit your SEO articles or discuss submitted search engine optimization, web design, or programming article"

The actual purpose of this forum is to "Submit" your internet marketing articles, or review "submitted" articles to this site it isnt for providing outbound links to other articles on the web, there is an SEO discussion forum for that.

generally if there are lots of links and a low information to link ratio on the first post I delete it. It was a while ago though, so I do not remember it too well.
