"Broken Google" claims.
I can't help but notice that the statement "Google is broken" and other related claims are appearing more and more all over the web.
There have been errors like the 1969 clock error, all datacenters not showing the same PR update, hijacked URL stuff, ... Many seem to be grouping all this together and in light of the uncertainty it provides, condlude that Google must be broken.
Every time I see this somewhere I am reminded of the fat guys in pubs brandishing pints of beer and shouting at a tv screen, watching professional athletes who are earning their living by playing football or something. Of course, the fat guy knows better than the pros.
I've also seen some say that Google has become so complex that when one thing is fixed it leads to another problem and so on. Google is hardly the most complex piece software around!!! Its just a search engine for pete's sake. What about software found in planes, ships, medical equipment, military equipment, aerospace equipment (right down to rocket control), etc...
I doubt very much that they have lost control of it, there are processes and system engineering in place.
I still can't answer why its acting so weird though ... we'll find out soon enough I guess !

Well this one is cool... it's the fit all situation excuse.
Why I don't rank, google is broken.
Why I don't have lots of backlinks, google is broken.
Why I don't have PR, google is broken.
Why I disapeared from serps when I've been #1 for years, google is broken,
I don't understand what's going on, google is broken...
It's the perfect excuse that can be justified by the discrepancies we see.
There has always been glitches since I've been doing this and still I try to rank on a broken google... so my brain must be broken too... lol

Regardless of if it's "broke" or not what options do we have? To throw up our hands and jump in the unemployment line

no it really is broken...
Datacenter: 64.233.179.104
is really really messed up. Im doing a site: command and it showing 4 results (out of 46) and the 4 results that its showing me are pages that have NEVER exsisted on my site. It looks as if google took offer the subfolder. So it looks like: domain.com/subfile.html instead of domain.com/subfolder/subfile.html
Then I check out the cache and its showing me a very old caches of my sites... from a few months ago and of course that date is 1969
even my rankings are showing the exact same rankings I had well over a month 1/2 ago...
Now tell me this is really not broken?

OK here is another thing I think is broken about Google
Today when I tried to visit google.com I got a timeout message. So I suspected something wrong with Google. So I tried a different datacenter and it worked. So I said to myself "Man Google is having so many problems lately" Few minutes later it worked as it would normal.
And as far as like links, rankings, pr, etc. I think Google is either:
A - Trying to make us pull our hair out
B- Trying to press the delete key on good (non-spam) sites

Some datacenters in google are really messed up now, site: shows zero results, number of pages indexed sometimes show 90 which the original number of pages indexed is 450 for one of our sites,
We see lots of errors lately, Probably google is on for server upgradation,

Hehe, I had to smile when I read your post, xan. Either you read my latest scoop today, or others are saying exactly what I said. Yes, I made the "google is broken" claim today. And I fully expected to hear that I was grossly mistaken from quite a few people. That's cool. I would have been disappointed if no one had disagreed. I do, however, stand by the statement. And tomorrow's scoop will be a continuation of it as well. Sure, I might be wrong. But I don't mind standing up in front of a crowd to point out things that seem to cry out as being real problems with a system. I'm a programmer. I understand how the tiniest thing can cause major problems. And most often, it is only the customer who finds the problem, because the programmer is too close to the situation. It is the user who tries something that the programmer never anticipated. We are the users who analyze Google's serps with a fine-tooth comb, therefore we are the most likely to see the problems. And we have. Some problems (like the url hijacking one) have been going on for nearly a year now, and it is like beating our heads against a wall to get Google to see it. Some may or may not be serious (like the 1969 date issue), but as the problems (large and small) continue to present themselves, the ability to say that Google is NOT broken becomes harder and harder to do. I have many many sites that rank VERY well on Google. I have a few that don't, and those are generally because of my lack of attention to them. Most of the problems I see with Google are not ones that affect me personally at all. So, I really have no need to make this an excuse for my own lack of ability. No, I call them as I see them - whether or not my vision is perfect - and whether or not they directly affect me. If Google isn't broken, cool. But if it is, then maybe a little voice can make a difference.
