Crappy Conversion Rates!
I've recently (Dec 20, 2004) launched my new ecommerce site Hookah Hub ( http://www.hookahhub.com) with moderate success.
Within this first month I'm averaging 1-2 sales/day, but I'm now up to 200 unique visitors/day. This is only a .5-1% conversion rate; which I'm very unhappy with.
Please review my site for suggestions as to how I may improve my conversion rates; and items I may be missing or can improve upon. Thank you for any help/advice you can provide.

I'm on broadband and it still took ages to load - far too much coming up - I would have given up
See your logs to check how a) long visitors stay and b) average number of page views
If this is low you know you have a problem
BTW - as spiders stay milliseconds you may want to just look at pageviews !

I agree with leeds1, you really will have to check raw logs to see not only where the customer goes, but where he comes from..
If he comes from an bizzarre search term, he's obviously not going to buy!!
And my opinion is that a 1/200 conversion rate is ok.. especially if you don't have any / much advertising costs.. especially with a site as new as yours is..
Good luck!

I think loading times may be your big problem. WAY TOO SLOW.... Most people are gone before the page is done.
If you are converting at .5% to 1% you are converting at the standard. I bet if you get the pages to load faster you might see a little higher conversion.
Remember, you already have the people coming to your site, which is usually the hardest part. Now make it so they want to stay and shop around.

Yeah, 0.5-1% conversion is really not bad.

hookah-
I feel your pain man. In the past few years I have dropped tens of thousands of dollars into online advertisers pockets to promote websites after they have been created but before they started appearing in search results. My only piece of advice to you is to ask yourself: Can you afford to advertise when recieving only 1% sales conversion? If you cannot afford to do this, then cut your losses and reevaluate your gameplan.
Tip: Don't loose the potential clients that come to your site! Just because someone doesn't buy anything doesn't mean that they won't ever buy something. Put a sign up link for a free weekly or monthly newsletter so that you can send them some content.
IF YOU PAID FOR SOMEONE TO COME VISIT YOUR SITE DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITHOUT GIVING YOU SOMETHING.

Welcome to the real world. Your conversion rate OK I guess. I would not expect more then 2% at all.
