I understand that the sandbox effect is hurting rankings, as my sites www.montegroup.com and www.getmarriedlondon.com have dropped to deep end of the ocean, but what does sandbox actually mean?

It's basically that new links are being put aside for a while before they count for your site rankings in Google.

Do a forum search on sandbox and you'll find many threads about it.
